The joys of listening to the radio in the car! You can hear a dozen different songs you love and just sing along at the top of your lungs and no one can judge you. This is especially fun at traffic lights as if someone is flashing you a 'wtf' face you can drive off and never see that person again. Just channelling my inner Phoebe there. However you get one song that you have not heard in absolute donkeys and it gets you remembering a certain period of your life that was just so fantastic and carefree. I'm talking of course about the 90s! Disclaimer: Apart from the photos of me, I do not own any photos. They were found on Google Images or Youtube. |
But this weird bit of Nostalgia got me thinking about what else I enjoyed in the 90s. There was loads that I will admit was awesome about being a 90s kid, and I kinda wish some of it still existed other than in YouTube vaults.
Let's get reminiscing! (Can't believe I spelled that correct)
Okay, who remembers these guys???
No? Then you weren't a 90s kid!
It is of course Sabrina the Teenage Witch. I watched this show up until the bitter end and was chuffed to bits when she got back with Harvey although I did feel sorry for Aaron; I mean he was ditched at the alter, and that's never a good feeling. But I loved this show so much I watched it every night after school.
When I was younger I used to watch a show called Man-O-Man which I did catch a clip of now and I can't believe I used to watch this! Although still hilarious watching men do embarassing; often painful things, for women to choose who to go out with; it had the most risqué theme tune. Either that or I lead a sheltered life! I'll leave a link below to the final series opening if you're interested or can't remember this show.
Some Honourable mentions:
- Pets Win Prizes
- Friends
- Saved by the Bell
- Rugrats
- Sister Sister
Don't know why I've put my year 4 class picture there! See if you can guess which one I am (leave your guess in the comments below).
Anyway favourite Disney Film growing up was definately Hercules. I used to drive my friends mental with the songs in this film and I used to write fan-fiction stories about what happened to Pain and Panic after Hades was thrown into the river Styx. Not dirty fan-fiction (I was 10 ffs)!
I also loved Beauty and the Beast and Who Framed Roger Rabbit (does that count?) a lot. I was traumatised by the shoe death in that film and had to ask my mam to fast forward that scene for years! Speaking of film scenes that traumatised us as kids, wtf was up with that scene showing the rabbits trying to escape the warren in Watership Down??? In fact, wtf was up with Watership Down??? Don't get me wrong I still loved the film, and still do, but this was a film that introduced us all to the phrased, "Fuck off!"
Of course this is all coming from a girl who used to want the shark to win at the end of Jaws! Yeah, I was a weird kid!
- Boyzone- I still love them
- Spice Girls
- Steps
- S Club 7
- Take That
- Brittany Spears
- Westlife
- Were Blue in the 90s?
- Bryan Adams
I hated the Backstreet Boys!!!! Don't know why, but I did.
Come on, you saw these coming! I loved film soundtracks more than pop music if I'm honest.

Who remembers this game growing up?
It is of course mouse-trap. It used to last ages to build the trap up and then eventually catch someone in the net, and the advert made it look a lot easier than it was. We never used to put the metal ball in the bucket until you were ready to catch someone. Of course someone used to always have a hissy-fit if her mouse was caught first. Wonder who that could have been!
Another few board games I loved were Cludo, Othello, Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit.
Don't know if anyone else played this at school but we had a game called British Bulldogs. And I'm not going to describe this game, because I find the Urban Dictionary version hilariously accurate!
British Bulldogs
A brutal game played by British school kids. Usually played on a football pitch by anywhere between 10 and 100 players.
All but one of the players would start at one end of the pitch, the lone "bulldog" would stand in the middle of the pitch (the bulldog either volunteered because he was a nutter or was forced to do it by the rest of the players).
The people at the end of the pitch would then attempt to reach the other end of the pitch. The job of the bulldog was to take as many people down as possible. Unlike other violent games such as rugby there are no rules as to how you can take someone down, tripping people up and flying kicks are both perfectly acceptable.
Anyone the bulldog manages to take down are now bulldogs and stand in the middle for the next round. The game continues in the same fashion until some unfortunate mug is the only one standing at the end of the pitch and has to attempt to run past 100 kids who want to take him down by any means necessary.
The game ends when someone is seriously injured, a fight breaks out or the teachers come out and remind you that this game has been banned for a very long time
some_kid: Lets play British Bulldog
99_other_kids: Yeah!!
20 minutes later an ambulance arrives
Of course this game was eventually banned at our school. Our teachers had no sense of fun!
I honestly loved Dairy Milk Chocolate.
I know they still do these but not at 10p for a whopping great bag! 10p mix-ups. They were amazing. Used to take your pocket money to the newagents and get one every few weeks. They were amazing and always had your favourite jellies and fizzy sweets in there. I was obsessed with fizzy cola bottles. Still am actually.
I think I'll leave it there for today. I would include fashion items and Make-up but I wasn't in charge of my clothes back then and I honestly didn't wear make-up til I was about 15.
Hope you enjoyed today's blog, if you want to tell me all about your experiences of the 90s, leave a comment below.
And to finish off, here's some more embarrassing photos of me as a kid. Eek!
