I always come up with these extravagant resolutions worthy of the first chapter of a Helen Fielding novel, and honestly, this year has been no different! You try to keep them simple and then they end up being paragraphs! And then I feel utterly rubbish if I still haven't found Mr Right by February, or lost that stone by March. May as well give up now, right?
Stop right now brain! It's okay not to hit that crazily huge target by the end of January! Honest.
Resolutions are insane, and if we're honest we're all tough on ourselves because it's drastic measures we want to change about ourselves concerning what we see as our set-backs last year. The best advise? Yes have that larger goal, but every month, have small targets leading to the larger outcome. Want to lose 3 stone? In January, start walking up stairs in the department stores rather than take the lift.
I got this advise from a guy called Matthew Hussey. He's a life and love guru who started on YouTube. I've followed him for about two years now, and I love him (Daniel Radcliffe look-a-likeness aside). His newsletters and videos are so inspirational and helped me out of a few dark places last year. I will leave links below.
I do plan to make little changes to my life every month to hit that final goal. It does make you feel good when you hit that tiny target at the end of the month and it makes you strive for the next goal. This month I have joined a gym and I have made it a goal to try and go twice a week, if not more. By keeping those targets manageable you are not going to feel utter crap for failing. But if you fail guys, it's okay. We're human. We are meant to make mistakes. Just say, 'whatever', pick yourself up and start again. All my set-backs have taught me is what can I change to not make those mistakes again.
I feel like this has been such a rant, and it probably makes no sense, but I do hope it helps people realise that if they are not hitting their resolutions by the end of January, there is still 11 months to go. Keep going guys. We can have an awesome 2014. Bring it on!!!!
